Assignment: Project #3: ABCs of Culture

Project #3: ABCs of Culture due: el 21 de noviembre

This project requires some research, so I would not wait until the night before to do it. You are going to receive a Spanish speaking country. Then, using the letters A-Z, you are going to create a poster or a power point that depicts some type of cultural aspect from each letter. For example: A---Art.. then you are going to write a tid-bit about that subject. I am giving you a list of topics per letter that might be helpful; however, if you can come up with a topic for that specific letter, feel free. The project is to be done on a poster board, large foam board, or as a power point. If you are cutting out boxes for each letter, make sure that they are all the same size. I have a poster in the room that you can use as a model, and I will show you the power point. I did France as the model. You must list all resources, and use no less than 3. Only 2 may be from the Internet, the other one is to be from another type of source.

G-Government or Geography: who has power? How is the average citizen connected?

H-history: what experiences have shaped this culture?

I-Icons: what images, religious or secular cause a response? Ex. Mickey Mouse

J-Jobs: how do people make a living? What types of jobs are there?

K-Knowledge: how is knowledge passed from generation to another?

L-language: what are the most popular forms of literature? What are common gestures? Ex. The press

M-Movement/migration: How do people get around?

N-National pride: what people/places/things/ spark pride?

O-organizations: what organizations are important?

P-population: what are the largest groups? (race, religion?)

Q-quality of life: rate average person’s health/happiness

R-religion: what religion is practiced by the majority of the people?

S-status: what professions/classes have high or low status?

T-taboo: what behaviors are considered to be unacceptable?

U-urban vs. rural: do most people live in the city or the country?

V-vacation: how do people have fun?

W-ways of life: who does everyday tasks like cooking, cleaning, etc?

X-x marks the spot: how does geography shape culture?

Y-Yum: what is a typical food? Does one food represent the country?

Z-ztuff: what is typical of this culture? (Ex. Chopsticks-China)

A picture must accompany each letter. This can be clipart, from a magazine, or drawn.

· Make sure you cover all 26 letters

You must list your references on the back of the poster or at the end of the PowerPoint.

· Rubric:

1. All 26 letters are complete with clear, competent information

30pts

2. Resources (3? Are two only from the Internet?)

30pts

3. All letters and information are accompanied by a picture

20pts

4. It is neat. It is completed BEFORE coming to class. All items are affixed to the board. The PowerPoint is completed and able to be seen by teacher

10 pts

5. On Time-2 pts off per day up to five days late
