The research project will include a typewritten paper and a presentation.
The research paper will have:
- A Title page (Topic will be centered on the page, your name, date and period will be in the lower right corner).
- Two and a half, double-spaced, typewritten pages of text
- Glossary of terms
- Works Cited page with a minimum of five resources (three books, including encyclopedias and two electronic sources)
We have several different sets of encyclopedias, including subject encyclopedias on World War II.
Use the World Book Encyclopedia for background information. Use the subject encyclopedias for more specific information. Many books are on reserve for this project at the school library. The Encyclopedia of the Holocaust is in your teacher's room. Please look at it. There is information in there that you can't find anywhere else.
For electronic sources, try:

This will especially help you with your glossary. Click here to use this site from home. You will need a public library card number.
When searching online, please be careful! You may find some sites that deny that the Holocaust existed. Make sure to find sites which have an AUTHOR listed, and an ORGANIZATION affiliated with it. If the site ends in .edu or .org, it may be more reliable than a .com. Be wary of Wikipedia or a personal page. You can tell a personal page by the address. Usually, there is a ~ in the address. Wikipedia can be edited by anyone, so don't trust it. Use it only for the links.
Try:
The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
Remember.org, a Cybrary of the Holocaust
The Jewish Virtual Library site
The presentation will:
Give a three-five minute oral presentation
Include a visual aid (collage, poster, charts, diagram)
Notes will be taken on the forms provided and you must record the bibliographic information FIRST, before taking notes. Use the guidelines provided for the proper format. After gathering sufficient information, begin your first draft.
INTRODUCTION: Give background information about the historical period under study and include a strong THESIS statement (main idea).
BODY: The text should adequately cover the topic (use your essential questions as a guide). Make sure you paraphrase. DO NOT COPY. Write what you learned in your own words.
CONCLUSION: The conclusion should be one or two paragraphs that summarize the main ideas in the paper. The conclusion MUST include your personal reflections on what you learned, however, do not use the first person.
